ABY & STEREO ABY – Passive Or Active
Affordable, expertly built in Berlin, mechanically noise-free and with our signature eye catching looks, these little helpers have graced thousands of rigs the world over.
The first devices in KMA’s Utility series were our Passive ABY and STEREO ABY pedals. So why introduce Active versions to the line up?
The Active ABY and Active STEREO ABY pedals are ideal for those who like to use the Y splitting or combining functions – at least with some signals that don’t always play nicely together, due to often differing impedances between connected devices.
They also incorporate Phase and Y Direction switches making them ideal to better level match on combining or splitting signals, exactly as you want them to be routed.
So, whether you want the choice of Passive or Active models, even more musos can now have the choice of how they want to split, combine or simply switch between audio devices with ease, no matter your setup or signal demands.
Stereo or Mono?
Before we launched our AB/Y pedals, we found that what was on the market was either generally low-cost, with clunky old-fashioned and annoying hard switches (that tend not to last) or they are highly specified and quite a lot more expensive than many people need, for simple ABY tasks at least.
Also why is it so difficult to find a simple ABY in a stereo format? This is a question that kept coming up in our team as we use many stereo devices daily here at KMA. We made a killer STEREO ABY switcher to use in our Berlin workshop and in the process, we found it extremely useful. So, we decided to make it available to the world!
Created with a focus on durability, reliability, simplicity and hassle-free operation, the KMA AB/Y series feature silent relay-based soft-switching, to reduce mechanical noise and those nasty unwanted pops and clicks when in use. The 3 distinct LEDs also quickly and easily show you what signal path you’ve selected, at a glance. Passive models retain True Bypass for the maximum simplicity (perfect for fussy vintage fuzz pedals too), whereas the Active models feature KMA’s high quality Buffered Bypass circuit, to maintain tone on even the lengthiest cable runs.
All you now have to do is choose your path and perform! To A, B or not to A&B – that is definitely the question!
